Hagoos, a travel agency in the Basque Country specialising in family tourism, presented their new tourism products as part of the 2nd edition of the Rencontres Cultivées taking place this weekend in Paris.
Hundreds of Parisians came along this weekend to this gathering on Basque crop and livestock farming where they met Basque producers from the Lur Lan and Amalur associations.
As a new feature this year, they presented new tourism products designed by Hagoos and Lur Lan as an introduction to Basque rural life for visitors. With the Basque farmers, tourists can discover the origin of products including Idiazabal cheese, Piment d’Espelette, Tolosa black beans, as well as others made from the Euskal Txerria pig, also learning how they’re made. A series of tourist experiences designed to take a closer look at Basque roots and traditional crafts and trades while giving the visitor a better idea of the life and customs of the local producers.
The Hagoos proposals range from a walk through Aralar natural park, ending in a hut where you can help the shepherd to go about his everyday work, to actively participating in the making of homemade jam and typical Basque sweetmeats or a trip through the vines by horse and cart in the company of a grape grower.
These experiences are intended to give tourists a closer look at the roots of the Basque Country, a land of enormous contrasts, famous for its small family farms perfectly blending in with the natural surroundings, and which now want to open their doors to the world to show what they have often been doing, generation after generation, for their whole lives.
