Getting to know the Basque Country and Navarre means delving into their history and the legends of Basque mythology. Hagoos therefore offers trips combining San Sebastian with the villages of Urdazubi-Urdax and Zugarramurdi (known as the Xareta cross-border region, together with Sara and Ainhoa) and offering the opportunity to learn about the local history, gastronomy, mythology and folklore, all shrouded in a halo of mystery that will make this a unique experience for all involved.
In San Sebastian, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the gastronomy and learn about the city’s history on a pintxo tour of the Old Town. A meeting with a city boasting 16 Michelin stars, ending with a cookery workshop using locally-sourced ingredients.
And in Zugarramurdi you’ll enjoy an authentic akelarre or witches’ coven in the cave at nightfall. As part of the exhibition, visitors will follow the pretty path running alongside the stream going by the name of Infierno or ‘Hell’ to the cave, learning about the world of medicinal plants, potions and spells; Basque mythology and legends; the persecution of witches and the drama of Zugarramurdi… While the echoes of the txalaparta release your senses, you’ll taste a magic potion and enjoy the witches’ coven in the very spot that legend would have it these rituals took place. All seasoned with a touch of humour making this a spectacle suitable for all ages.
